I Believe In You…
“I believe in you.”
Those are the words I longed to hear when I was first venturing out on my own.
I was 26 years old, and had some pretty big dreams. I wanted to work for myself and love what I did every day. I wanted to have the kind of time and money that spells FREEDOM. The freedom to travel and learn all over the world. The freedom to live in a tropical paradise that would warm my body and feed my spirit.
And the freedom to pursue my greatest passion, dance.
I also wanted to make a huge impact with my work, to help others create businesses and lives that they loved, too. And finally, my biggest dream of all — to build my own Wellness Retreat, a serene and beautiful place where guests could experience dance, yoga, raw food, self care and personal growth.
You can probably imagine the reactions I got when I spoke my dreams out loud. “Are you nuts?” my in-laws asked. My parents tried a softer approach: “That’s lovely, Carmen, but how exactly are you going to earn any money?” Even some of my friends rolled their eyes, and said “Yeah, right. Get real.”
I began to doubt myself. Maybe I wasn’t really cut out to go off on my own. Maybe I was too young, not smart enough, not educated enough, not good enough. Have you ever felt that way?
Luckily, there was one person in my life who didn’t look at me like I was crazy — Brad, my husband at the time. He encouraged me to think beyond the usual success formula of striving for a corner office in a top company. He smiled when I told him over and over again that I wanted to be an entrepreneur, to be in charge of my life and my destiny. And then he uttered the sweetest and most powerful words ever:
“I’m going to bet on the jockey.”
That was it. He saw the fire in me, and placed his bet on me. I didn’t need his permission, of course, but I was profoundly grateful for his support. From that point on, I’ve known that this is what I was meant to do and believed in my ability to do it.
And guess what? I know that you can do it, too. Whatever it is that you’re dreaming about when you think that no one is looking, you can make it happen. You may not have all the skills yet, or the step by step plan, but you have the desire and the determination.
And you have me. I’m betting on you! (And I’m willing to put my time where my mouth is, too, so keep reading for more about how I want to support you :-)
Running a successful business can be a mystery when you’re on the outside looking in. I know I felt that way when I was starting out.
But the truth is it’s never been easier to do what you love and make an incredible living doing it. Technology has truly leveled the playing field and given us all opportunities that just a few years ago were nearly unthinkable.
Many of us let our fears and concerns hold us back from moving ahead. (I know I almost did.) We imagine that successful people have “super powers” or “super resources” that the rest of us just don’t.
For the past week, I’ve shared some free training videos with you from Marie Forleo, the phenomenal business coach who has helped me create the business and life I first dreamed about in my 20s.
When I enrolled in her B-School two years ago, I couldn’t imagine how to translate my wellness, lifestyle & coaching business to the internet. But I knew I needed to do it if I was going to grow. Since then, I’ve doubled the size of my business and the number of people I’m working with, and I’ve moved to Maui + Bali where I do 90% of my business online!
(My home in Bali)
It’s your time now. And I want to support you!
When you enroll with this link, I can support you directly! You and I will have a one-on-one coaching call AND we can go through B-School together – sharing tips, ah-has, and support through my B-School Babes Facebook Forum.
If you’ve watched Marie’s free videos, you’re ready. Ready to create — or grow — a thriving business of your own. Ready to start living your dreams. It’s time for B-School.
Being in business for yourself is one of the best things you can do. Designing your business to support the life you want to live makes it that much sweeter.
I really do believe in YOU,
